In Nnokwa, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, a middle-aged woman named Nneamaka Nwosu, originally from Amawbia in Awka South LGA, has been arrested for allegedly setting a policewoman and her two children on fire.
The incident occurred after the policewoman offered Nwosu accommodation when she became homeless following a divorce.
According to an anonymous resident, Nwosu went to live with the policewoman during her difficult times.
However, the situation took a tragic turn when Nwosu was apprehended by a local vigilante and villagers after they noticed a fire and realized what had happened.
At first, Nwosu denied any wrongdoing, claiming it was a gas explosion while the deceased policewoman and her children were boiling water. However, she later confessed to the crime, stating that it was influenced by the devil.
The Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident. He stated that the suspect had been arrested, and the bodies of the policewoman and her children were taken to the mortuary.
The case has been transferred to the State Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution.
According to Ikenga, initial information indicates that a disagreement between the two women escalated into a fight, during which Nwosu struck the policewoman on the head with a pestle. Subsequently, Nwosu tied the unconscious policewoman with her two children and set them ablaze.
The police spokesperson assured that additional updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
