A visually impaired man identified as Francis Ugachukwu has been remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos State. Ugachukwu is accused of defiling a 13-year-old girl.
During the court proceedings, Justice Abiola Soladoye ordered the remand of Ugachukwu pending the hearing and filing of his bail application. The defendant was arraigned on a single count charge of defilement.
The state prosecution counsel, Abimbola Abolade, informed the court that the offence was committed in November 2022 at No. 16 Kareem Giwa Street, Abule-Osun, Ojoo, Lagos State. The act allegedly contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Despite the charge, the defendant pleaded not guilty. As a result, the case has been adjourned until October 18 for the hearing of the bail application and the commencement of the trial.
