The United Arab Emirates has contradicted the Nigerian government’s claims regarding the lifting of a year-long visa ban on Nigerian travelers. An unnamed official from the UAE stated to CNN that there have been no changes in the travel status between Nigeria and the UAE.
Last October, the UAE announced it would no longer issue visas to Nigerian citizens, along with 19 other African nations, without providing additional details.
While the Nigerian government mentioned an agreement with the UAE that would lead to the visa ban’s lifting and the immediate resumption of flights between the two countries, a statement from the UAE government after a meeting between the leaders only discussed further bilateral collaboration and reinforcing ties, without specifically mentioning the visa ban or flight resumption.
