Two police officers from the Rivers State Police Command have been arrested after a video capturing them mistreating an unidentified man went viral. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, ordered their arrest in response to the disturbing footage that circulated on social media. The arrested officers are currently undergoing interrogation for their unprofessional behavior.
According to Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, the police operatives will be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the established guidelines governing the conduct of law enforcement personnel. Appropriate sanctions will be applied accordingly to address the misconduct.
Iringe-Koko emphasized that the identification and arrest of the officers should serve as a deterrent to other police personnel. She also urged the victim in the video to come forward and provide a statement to the Public Relations Department of the Rivers State Police Command. The command guarantees the protection of the victim’s identity and reassures the people of Rivers State of its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law.
