Justice Adenike Akinpelu of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin convicted three students for conspiring to gang rape a cousin of one of them.
The defendants were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and rape, and each received a five-year imprisonment sentence for rape and two years for criminal conspiracy, with an additional N50,000 fine.
The judge considered the defendants’ confessions as clear and unequivocal, dismissing their claims that the victim owed them money.
The prosecutor and the Director of the Office of the Public Defender reacted to the judgment, acknowledging the judge’s thorough evaluation of the evidence.
