A grassroots mobilizer and politician in Ifako Ijaye Local Government Area of Lagos State, Durojaiye Nurudeen Bolaji has abandoned his residence over attacks by hoodlums.
Durojaiye, a card carrying member of the All Peoples’ Congress (APC) and a staunch supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since the days of Alliance for Democracy (AD), vigorously campaigned for the Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 general election.
He printed posters, banners, souvenirs and financially supported Tinubu’s campaign in his community, with the promise that most of the youths would benefit once the area deliver electoral votes in favour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
There were indications that Durojaiye’s financial support and campaigns polarised the community as many youths in the opposition party, joined forces with him to ensure victory in their area, and with the promise that, once Tinubu wins the general election, most of the youths would be properly engaged in productive activities that would better their lives and the people.
Things however went south after their candidate, Bola Tinubu was sworn in as the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Expectations grew and Nigerians were disappointed that the economy has continued to slide downwards after President Tinubu took over.
Unfortunately, Durojaiye who was one of the leading lights in his area, could not attend to the needs of restive youths who frequent his house for assistance regularly.
However, in the spate of five weeks, his house has been attacked twice by hoodlums suspected to be his political supporters. They felt betrayed by the party.
The grassroots politician who used to donate foodstuffs and cash gifts to youths in the area, has since been indisposed and is believed to be holed up in the United Kingdom where he had travelled for vacation.
Sources say, Durojaiye who was billed to return to the country in January 26, 2024 is now in panic mode, for fear of being attacked by people in the community. He has since delayed his return out of fear for his life an that of his family.
According to a source within his family, “Durojaiye has received several threat messages and calls from unknown persons, who believed he and his party did not fulfill their campaign promises, while he travelled for vacation.
“Threat calls and reports of unknown persons around his property have made Durojaiye and his family to delay their return to Nigeria for fear of kidnap or being attacked by unknown persons, especially after two separate incidents of attack on his personal property in his locality in Ifako-Ijaiye”.
However, there are indications that the politician has informed the Nigerian Police Force, so as to guarantee his safety upon his return into the country, so that he can take care of his businesses.
