A 17-year-old female student named Victory Ehiremen, studying at Osun State University in Ikire campus, and her boyfriend, Ayobami Ariyo, were recently presented before journalists at the state police command headquarters in Osogbo. They are accused of obtaining N1.5 million from a victim whom they lured from Lagos to Osun State.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Kehinde Longe, Ehiremen met the complainant on social media a few days prior to the incident. After several days of chatting online, Ehiremen invited the complainant to Ikire from Lagos. During the visit, she took him to her boyfriend’s house, where he was attacked by a group of individuals who subsequently transferred N1.5 million from his bank account.
The police swiftly initiated an investigation upon receiving the report, leading to the arrest of Ayobami Ariyo from his hideout. Further investigation resulted in the apprehension of two additional accomplices. The police are actively pursuing other culprits, and once the investigation is complete, the suspects will be charged in court.
Ehiremen claimed that she was unaware that her boyfriend forcefully obtained money from the complainant. She stated that she was unable to tolerate the situation when Ayobami and his friend began assaulting the complainant after forcing their way into the room where she was present. Ehiremen revealed that she initially met the complainant through WhatsApp and mentioned that her boyfriend, who she alleged was involved in internet fraud, gave her a gift of N40,000 two days after the incident.
In addition to Ehiremen and Ayobami, the police also paraded several others who were arrested for conspiracy and armed robbery along the Osu-Ile-Ife Highway in the state. The individuals arrested in this separate case were identified as Obinna Chibuzo, Igwe Chukwudi, Ogbona Destiny, Eze Nwaze, Olamilekan Samson, and Kola Akinolu.
