Customers have been warned to desist from offering bribe or any form of gratification to workers of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company.
Mr Godwin Idemudia, General Manager, Communications of the company, said that bribing officials in any form was against the company’s ethics.
Idemudia said that there were allegations of extortion against some of the workers, and the management would punish anyone involved in the act.
He urged customers to report cases of fraudulent practice by any of the company’s workers, to help sanitise the system.
“Please do not abuse our staff, they work hard to ensure that our customers power supply needs are addressed.’’
Idemudia added;“Give no bribe, give no gratification. Our workers have already been paid to assist the customers within their franchise area.
“I will advise our customers to report all faults detected immediately to the business office closest to them for effective monitoring and follow up.”
The company’s spokesman decried the increasing rate of vandalism of electricity equipment within its area of operation and urged residents to report suspicious elements tampering with power installations.
“Frequent vandalism affects you and increases the cost of electricity supply to you, our customers, I appeal to you to please report any illegal connections in your area,’’ he said.
Idemudia disclosed that the company loses over N50 million monthly to vandalism of electricity equipment in the zone.
According to him, areas recording rampant vandalism include Apapa, Mushin, Ikoyi, Ajegunle and Festac, all in Lagos State.
“Vandalism of electricity installations in the areas has become a problem and within the past six months, the unit has recorded further acts of vandalism of nine transformer substations.
“Most times, the vandals cart away eight meters of 150mm 2×4 core cables, cable sockets and ferrules,’’ he stressed.
