A two-week-old baby stolen from the mother has been rescued by police operatives attached to Uratta division within the Aba Area Command in Abia State from a suspected child trafficker.
It was gathered that the cry of the baby at the Uratta Junction attracted police detectives to the suspect, identified as Gift Kpaa, of Gogana Local Governmrnt Areas , Rivers State.
When she was challenged, the suspect was said to be unable to give a proper account of the baby and was arrested.
A police source said the suspect later confessed that she was not the biological mother of the baby, adding that the father of the baby, identified as Ntue, of the same address with her, gave her the baby to nurture.
The source added that further investigation revealed that the suspect connived with the said Ntue, now at large, to steal the baby from her biological mother.
It was gathered that the rescued baby had been taken to an undisclosed motherless babies’ home for care and custody, while efforts were on to reunite her with her mother.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, confirmed the rescue of the baby and the arrest of the suspect.
