Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, has appointed a 13-member Special Investigation Team to uncover the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of Nigerian singer and former protege of Naira Marley, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, on September 12 in Lagos. Simultaneously, Nigerian celebrities and passionate fans of Mohbad have taken to the streets in various locations across the country to demand justice for the late singer.
These protests, which initially began in Akure, Ondo State, yesterday, are anticipated to spread to other states. The team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saheed Kassim, will conduct various tasks, including the exhumation of Mohbad’s body, autopsies, toxicology and histology tests, according to Commissioner Owohunwa.
During the inauguration of the Special Investigation Team, Owohunwa disclosed that its members would be stationed at the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department. He explained that the team has been divided into four sub-teams, each assigned to specific areas such as forensic, technical, medical, and practical investigations.
He emphasized that the command is pursuing these measures in the interest of public justice. Furthermore, he expressed confidence in the support promised by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for a comprehensive and professionally conducted investigative process.
CP Owohunwa outlined the team’s terms of reference, which include gathering information from all sources, deploying relevant forensic and technical assets, and identifying all individuals connected to the case, including witnesses, to ensure a thorough and conclusive investigation.
