A 32-year-old carpenter, Benjamin Jato, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence in Kaduna State for defiling a six-year-old in the state.
Jato, who lives in Bayan-Dutse in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state, was arrested on Wednesday.
It was said that the suspect took the advantage of his familiarity with the girl’s parents as a neighbour to perpetrate the act.
The six-year-old was said to have been defiled in a bathroom where she resides in a rented apartment with her aunt.
One of the tenants said, “Initially I was told that she fell in a gutter because I saw blood on her cheeks, as the blood on her had been washed by the suspect.
“But after a critical check on her body, I discovered blood on her laps.
“When we prevailed on her, she opened up that the man raped her and warned that she must not disclose it to anyone, else she will die.”
The NSCDC state Commandant, Babangida Dustinma, who spoke through the state Public Relations Officer, ASC Orndiir Terzungwe, in a statement, said after thorough investigation, the suspect would be charged to court.
