Abia State Community Vigilante, Isiala Ngwa Community South Command, has apprehended six individuals in relation to the death of a 53-year-old woman named Amarachi Nwanozie. The woman’s body was discovered on a farm located in the Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.
The woman’s husband became alarmed when she did not return from her farm on Wednesday, as expected, by 5 pm. Despite efforts by the man and local residents to search the farmland and surrounding areas, she could not be found that evening.
The following day, the husband reported the matter to the vigilante group, who later found the deceased woman’s body. The vigilante spokesperson, Victor Ogidinta, revealed that they believed she had been raped and subsequently died as a result.
According to the report, personnel from the Abia State Community Vigilante, Isiala Ngwa Community South Command, recovered the remains of Amarachi Nwanozie. Her husband had reported her disappearance on July 12, 2023, after she had left for her farm at around 9 am and failed to return.
Suspicion grew regarding her whereabouts when she did not come back on time. The following day, the husband sought assistance from the Amangwa Vigilante Service, Isiala Ngwa South Command, who dispatched a team to search for the missing woman. Her lifeless body, unclothed and accompanied by her mobile phone and a bundle of cassava stems, was found near her farm in a bush. The body has since been deposited in a morgue.
After a thorough investigation, the vigilante group arrested six suspects believed to be connected to the woman’s death on allegations of rape. The State Commandant of Abia State Community Vigilante, Dr. Daniel Iheadindueme, handed over the suspects to the Omoba Police Division, who subsequently transferred them to the Isiala Ngwa Area Command headquarters for further investigation.
