Barely 48 hours after reports came that the Nigerian Army had killed over 60 members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, sources say security agencies are also reviewing information about their notorious leader,
Abubakar Shekau, who they said, may have died in a battle with the military. Though, the information department are yet to confirm it but sources say, DNA test would be carried out while further reviews are ongoing.
Nigerian armed forces said in a Twitter posting that over 60 Boko Haram militants had been killed and a senior Boko
Haram leader had been captured in the battle at Konduga. The leader, who wasn’t identified by the armed forces, is being treated
at a military hospital.
Boko Haram, which has been battling the Nigerian state since
2009, killed thousands of people since their attacks in the Northwest and had displaced over 350,000 people according to the National Emergency Management Agency.
There is also, an official reports that five Commanders of the Islamic sect, yesterday surrendered to the Nigerian Army. These Boko Haram members were seen with several cache of arms and a Hilux vehicle.
Unconfirmed report has it that, the rumoured death of their leader may have led to the arrest of the members.
