A final year student of the Kwara State College of Education in Ilorin, Hafsah Yetunde Lawal was murdered by suspected ritualist.
Her corpse was dismembered after honouring the invitation of a lover she met on Facebook.
According to reports, the unsuspecting Hafsah was at a naming ceremony when she received an invitation call from her killer.
“She dropped her food to answer the call and then left,” the source hinted, adding that, “since then, we’ve been searching for her everywhere, but no one knew her whereabouts.”
However, her parents were said to have lodged the case reported missing by her father who lodged the complaint on Monday, 10th of February, 2025, at Area C Divisional Police, Oja-Oba.
It was the police that requested the deceased’s phone number to track her last call.
“The suspect was arrested, but initially denied the lady’s whereabouts. However, when the police searched his house, he confessed that the lady was in his area and had died of an asthma attack after he invited her over,” a police source said.
“Upon further investigation, the police found the lady’s body, dismembered and hidden in a bowl, along with the equipment used to dismember her. The suspect is with us at the headquarters.”
He said that the suspect had confessed that they met on Facebook, where he obtained her phone number.
“Disturbingly, evidence found in the suspect’s house suggests this may not be his first offense. A table in his room appeared to be equipped with tools used to dismember bodies,” the source said.
“Interestingly, the suspect who committed the heinous crime is reportedly the son of a well-known cleric from Isalekoto, Ilorin.”
Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the heinous murder, saying:
“Kwara Police Command is aware of the gruesome killing of one Miss Yetunde H. Lawal.”
She stated: “On 11/O2/2025 at about 1800hours, a case of missing person was reported at C Division Oja-Oba by her father Mr Ibrahim A Lawal.
“Immediately, the police detectives swung into action, tracked her number and arrested a suspect, exhibits recovered. The case was transferred yesterday (Friday) to the SCID for discreet investigations,” she confirmed.
The PPRO said further updates would be shared with the public as the investigations progress.
