The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded a thorough investigation into the reported terrorist attack on its presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, in Yola, Adamawa state.
The PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, expressed concern about the foiled terrorist attack on Atiku and other sensitive locations in Yola. According to Ologunagba, the confession of the arrested suspected Boko Haram member indicates that the attack appears to be a sponsored attempt on Atiku’s life.
The party believes that the attack may be linked to forces unsettled by Atiku’s challenge of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) following the February 25 poll.
The PDP questioned if this foiled attack on Atiku and sensitive locations is connected to recent threats made by the APC regarding chaos and anarchy in the country if the PEPC upholds the constitutional requirements for declaring a Presidential election winner.
The PDP has called on the Inspector General of Police to track down and bring the sponsors of the assailants to justice. They emphasized that the Federal Government has a duty to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the nation.
The PDP also urged security agencies to enhance security around Atiku and his family during this critical time in Nigeria’s democratic process. They commended the people of Yola and security agencies for foiling the attack and urged Nigerians to remain calm and alert as investigations continue to uncover those behind the plot.
