Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a three-man ‘one-chance’ robbery gang after being identified by one of their victims, Mrs Taye Olotu, at a motor park in the Atan-Ota area of the state.
The suspects were reported to have posed as drivers and passengers in the park, when the victim, who had earlier been robbed in February by the gang saw them and reported to the police, who subsequently arrested the suspects.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday.
He said the suspects, Aisu Anago, 30; Muritala Alubarika, 42; and Noah Joel, 34, were arrested on February 28, 2019 at the Atan motor park.
Oyeyemi said their arrest followed a report by Olotu, who alerted policemen on patrol, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Atan-Ota Division, Abiodun Salau.
According to him, the victim told the police that she boarded a vehicle going to Idi-Iroko earlier in the month only for her to be robbed by the other occupants midway into the journey before they pushed her out of the moving vehicle.
The PPRO said, “She stated further that while she wanted to board another vehicle on another day, she saw those who robbed her calling passengers into the same vehicle.
“Based on her report, the police patrol team quickly followed her to the motor park, where the three suspects were promptly arrested along with the vehicle.
“A search was conducted on them and a cutlass and a rope, which they always use to tie their victims before dispossessing them of their property, were recovered.
“On interrogation, they made confessional statements that their mode of operation was for one of them to act as the driver of the car, while the other two would pretend to be passengers in the car and they would sit in such a way that would make their victim to be sandwiched in between them.
“Once they get to an isolated area, one of them will bring out the cutlass and the other one will use the rope to tie the victim’s hands to make it easy for them to search and dispossess such person of whatever valuables they have on them.
“They admitted being the gang that robbed the complainant earlier in the month of the sum of N100,000.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for discreet investigation.”
