Ogun State Government has revealed plans to begin the operation of Bus Rapid Transit service in major cities of the state.
The government further disclosed that plans were underway to extend Oshodi-Abule Egba BRT to Ota metropolitan part of Ogun State.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo, said this on Wednesday, while speaking at a general stakeholders’ workshop on the Development of Transport Policy and Capacity Building in Abeokuta.
Dairo, who argued that it was impossible to implement the Lagos BRT mode of operation in Ogun, hinted that the state would engage in ‘Park and Ride Service’ on the Mowe/Ibafo and Lagos roads.
He noted that the state would take advantage of the Oshodi-Abule Egba BRT service by ensuring such opportunity was extended to the Ota area of the state.
The commissioner said, “It is important to say here that the Ministry of Transportation will also be introducing BRT service in Ota, Mowe-Ibafo and Lagos while Park and Ride service would be on Mowe/Ibafo and Lagos corridor.
“In a place like Mowe-Ibafo, the immediate solution is something we called ‘Park and Ride’, where people will rather drive from the internal part of Mowe to somewhere around Lagos-Ibadan expressway and take another form of transportation to an inner part of Lagos.”
