A twelve-year-old girl who was kidnapped in Ketu area of Lagos State on Friday has been rescued by policemen attached to Mowe Division in Ogun State.
A suspected member of the kidnap syndicate was also arrested during the rescue operation at the early hours of yesterday, in an hotel at Orimeranmu area of Mowe.
The teenager , Eniola Oyekanmi, was abducted at about 4pm, while running an errand for her parents.
Thereafter, the kidnappers contacted her parents, demanding N2 million ransom for her release.
Her distraught father was said to have contacted his friends , some of who are traditional rulers in Ogun, where the kidnappers were said to have headed .
During the telephone conversation with the kidnappers, the call was traced to Mowe from where policemen from Mowe Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Mr Ebihunwa, a Chief Superintendent of Police , CSP, traced them to the hotel.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, narrated the story ”One Odele Tosin, leader of the kidnap gang which masterminded the teenager’s abduction, was arrested while others escaped.
The victim was rescued unhurt. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered a manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang. He has also directed that the suspect be transferred to the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet investigation.
“While commending the efforts of the rescue team , the CP also assured residents of the state of adequate security, as the command will not rest until criminals are chased out of the state completely”.
