The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been successful in apprehending a notorious drug kingpin, Obiorah Samuel, who had been wanted for multiple attempts to smuggle illicit drugs into the United Kingdom through various routes, including the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. This arrest is part of a series of operations resulting in the seizure of four tons of illegal substances in the past week.
Obiorah Samuel had been on the agency’s wanted list since September 15, 2023, when a shipment of 1,500kg of skunk concealed in flour destined for London, UK, was intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. He was apprehended on September 28 when he attempted to transport another 2,000kg of illicit drugs hidden in cartons to the UK. He had previously claimed to be involved in the shoe sales business in Lagos before venturing into the illegal drug trade.
Furthermore, the NDLEA’s operations also led to the interception of a container truck carrying 1,188 kilograms of skunk hidden under toothpaste cartons in the Federal Capital Territory and the arrest of the driver, Amafan Fattison, on September 29. In Bayelsa State, 432kg of the same substance was discovered in an abandoned J5 bus along Saipem road on September 27.
Lastly, in Kano, a 70-year-old man named Ado Unguwa was arrested on September 30 with 143.2kg of skunk in Dindere village, Tofa LGA. These successful operations represent the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and related crimes.
