The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a two-day warning strike scheduled for September 5th and 6th. This decision comes after their National Executive Council meeting.
The NLC plans to proceed with an indefinite shutdown within 14 or 21 working days if the government doesn’t address widespread suffering and impoverishment issues.
They are also demanding the state to vacate the illegally occupied national headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The NLC intends to organize a mass protest and rally in Imo State in September.
This move by NLC is prompted by the government’s neglect of engaging in meaningful dialogue on critical issues, particularly the impact of rising petroleum prices on Nigerian workers and the public. They are also concerned about what they perceive as a renewed crackdown on labor unions and their leaders by government authorities nationwide.
