Street Child and Welfare Initiative (SCCWI), a non-governmental organisation that has been prioritising the needs of street and vulnerable children for the past 12 years, decided to mark the May 27th Children’s Day celebration by providing sumptuous meals for over 1000 less privileged children.
The NGO which is based at Alagomeji, Yaba-Lagos, took the feeding program to streets in various parts of Lagos State like Oshodi, Okobaba in Ebute Meta, Iddo Slum, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo amongst others.
According to Comfort Alli, President/ Project Director of SCCWI, the feeding program has been part of the mission of the organisation, and it is carried out with the help of volunteers, fundraisers and donations from individuals and organisations.
In her words, the programme is important to us because “in a bid to meet the psychological and educational needs of the street child, we have set a standard and have also given an indication of a brighter future for the average street child, and this is just a tip of the iceberg.”
