The National Broadcasting Corporation has banned five Nigerian songs and tagged them “Not to be Broadcast.” The banned songs are Olamide‘s ‘Wo’ and ‘Wavy Level,’ Davido‘s ‘Fall’ and ‘If (Remix),’ and 9ice’s ’Living Things.’
The broadcast regulatory body released the list yesterday, saying it has banned the five songs from being aired across Nigerian airwaves. Last week, the Federal Ministry of Health, led by the Minister, Isaac Adewole, said Olamide’s new street anthem ‘WO’ is in violation of Tobacco Control Act 2015.
Olamide, who is signed to his own record label, YBNL, recently returned to his home base, Bariga, to shoot the video of his latest single. NBC statement read: “This is our position: video contravenes the act. Innocently or otherwise, Tobacco Promotion Advertising Sponsorship is banned in all forms.”
In responding, Olamide said, “I have no intention of promoting tobacco to get people killed. I love my people; I love my country. One love, one Nigeria!”
