In a recent case at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, a man named Stephen Monday has been remanded in a correctional center. He is accused of defiling his lover’s four-year-old daughter. The court, presided over by Justice Abiola Soladoye, remanded Monday after he pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement of a child, which was brought against him by the Lagos State Government.
The incident is said to have occurred on February 14, 2021, at 5am, at a residence in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The defendant is alleged to have had sexual intercourse with the four-year-old girl, a crime that violates Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Upon his not guilty plea, the Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Babajide Martins, requested a trial date. Consequently, Justice Soladoye ordered that the defendant be held in prison custody until his bail is processed. The case is scheduled to commence trial on November 9, 2023.
