Adebisi Akinrin-mola, 43-year-old, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for killing one Ademola Asimiyu over a girlfriend.
The suspect reportedly claimed that the deceased accused him of snatching the woman from him and has been warning him to leave her.
The incident, which happened Sunday afternoon at Ajebo village in Ijebu-Igbo area of Ogun State, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said: “The suspect, 36, claimed that the deceased has been threatening him over a woman he is dating.
“Trouble started when the deceased met the suspect with the said woman on their way from the farm and an argument ensued between the two men.
“The suspect claimed that it was the deceased that brought out a cutlass and made attempt to cut him, prompting him to bring out a dane gun with which he shot the deceased.
“A distress call was made to Ijebu-Igbo Divisional Police Headquarters, and the DPO, SP Agene James, led detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the dane gun recovered. The body has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, CIID, for further investigation.”
