Jimoh Oyemomi, 40-year-old man, was on Monday, arraigned before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Modakeke for raping an 80-year-old woman.
Oyemomi was arraigned on two counts of rape and assault, and pleaded guilty to the first count of rape, and not guilty to the second count of assault.
The suspect, according to the details presented before the court, assaulted and raped the victim on a farm at Onibambu village, near Modakeke around 2.30pm.
It was gathered that the rape victim, identified only as Mrs Sangolana, was also strangled by the suspect.
Addressing the court, the police prosecutor, Inspector Ona Glory, explained that Oyemomi committed the offences on Sunday, December 23, 2018.
He said the accused unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the 80-year-old Sangolana without her consent, adding that he also assaulted the victim by strangling her while he was committing the act.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 351 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
While the second count of assault was struck out by the court, Magistrate A. Famuyide, however, passed a guilty verdict on Oyemomi for the first count of rape after he had admitted to committing the crime.
Famuyide then sentenced the convict to three years in prison.
