French footballer Benjamin Mendy is preparing to face a retrial in a UK courtroom starting on Monday. This comes after he was acquitted of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault in a previous trial that concluded in January.
The new trial will focus on two charges, one of rape and one of attempted rape, involving two different women. Mendy, who currently plays for Manchester City, has consistently denied all the allegations against him.
The trial is taking place at Chester Crown Court in northwest England. It’s worth noting that Mendy’s contract with Manchester City is set to expire at the end of this month and is reportedly not expected to be renewed.
During the announcement of the not-guilty verdicts in January, Mendy reacted by covering his face with his hands and gently rocking back and forth.
