Major General Umaru Mallam Mohammed, who was convicted on October 4, 2023, of 14 out of 18 counts charges by the Nigerian Army, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison by the Special Court Martial. President of the Court, Major General James Myam, also ordered him to refund $2,053,200 and N1,690,000 to the Nigerian Army.
Although the total sentences initially amounted to 49 years, they will run concurrently, resulting in 7 years of imprisonment. The charges included theft, forgery, and misconduct. The sentences are subject to confirmation by the Army Council, the appropriate confirming authority. The court proceedings have been adjourned indefinitely.
