Bashir Umar, a Nigeria Air Force personnel, has returned the sum of €37,000 (N312.7 million) to its owner, Alhaji Ahmad, who misplaced the money at the Hajj Camp in Kano State.
Umar, a member of the NAF Mobile Air Defence Team (MADT), was on duty with his colleagues when he found the money on 16, July 2019.
Reports claimed that a number was written on the parcel which was used to locate the owner.
The Air Force in a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Sadique Abubakar, commended the officer for being honest, transparent and diligent in his line of duty.
He further stated that Abubakar has directed for Umar to be rewarded so as to encourage others to uphold and display characters that are consonant with NAF’s core values.
“The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has directed the Chief of Administration at the Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, to immediately come up with modalities to reward the airman so as to encourage other personnel of the Service to continue to embody attitudes and behaviours that reflect NAF’s core values of Integrity, Excellence and Service Delivery.”
