On Thursday, operatives from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) came to the aid of passengers trapped in a commercial bus with license plate FKJ 366 XT, which had been struck by a container-laden truck in the outer Marina area of the state. The accident occurred around 7 a.m., resulting in various injuries among the victims due to the truck’s over-speeding and subsequent brake failure.
The Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, stated that their personnel swiftly responded to the scene, along with support from sympathetic road users, to rescue the bus’s driver and passengers. Additionally, the Divisional Crime Officer and police officers from the Lion Building provided security during the rescue efforts.
Ashafa Moyosore, also known as Zebra 1, led the rescue operation, successfully rescuing all the passengers and the driver, who were subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, issued a warning to the public, especially commercial bus drivers, urging them to exercise caution, maintain restraint, and adhere to speed limits when driving on Lagos roads, particularly during the “ember months.”
