The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, reported that out of the 1,642 emergencies attended to, the majority (924 incidents) were fire-related.
Additionally, there were 92 cases of rescue, 41 salvage operations, three explosions, two building collapses, and 400 false calls received.
Adeseye emphasized that the rise in fire incidents was primarily due to carelessness and negligence, while also mentioning an increase in false distress calls caused by a change in the agency’s response strategy.
