Justice Dairus Khobo of Kaduna High Court has handed down a 12-month prison sentence to Peterson Enoch, a 19-year-old resident of Millennium City, Kaduna, for engaging in internet fraud. The case was brought before the court by the state Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In his verdict, Justice Khobo found Enoch guilty of the charges against him and sentenced him to 12 months in a correctional center. Enoch also has the option to pay a fine of N100,000.
Additionally, the judge ordered the forfeiture of the iPhone 12 and Infinix S5 phone that were seized from the convict during his arrest to the Federal Government. Enoch is also required to restitute $1,000 to his victim, Kingsley Matthew.
The EFCC Counsel, P. C. Onyeneho, explained that Enoch was apprehended on August 25 in Malali, Kaduna, based on actionable intelligence regarding suspected fraudulent activities. Upon his arrest, an analysis of Enoch’s phone revealed fraudulent documents linked to fictitious emails. Further investigation uncovered that Enoch had impersonated someone named Sandra James and defrauded the complainant of $1,000 using these false identities.
The defendant had pleaded guilty to the charges.
