During a Friday prayer session at the 150-year-old Zaria Central Mosque, a section collapsed, leading to the death of at least eight worshipers and injuries sustained by 25 others.
The collapse occurred around 4pm while worshipers were praying, specifically during the second Sujud of the Asr prayer. Survivors mentioned that the collapse affected those seated directly underneath the section, which was constructed with mud over a century ago.
The Emir of Zazzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, confirmed the incident and expressed his condolences. The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the eight casualties and is investigating the cause of the collapse.
