Lagos State Government took action on Wednesday by closing down Greater Scholars International School in Ajah following the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old student.
The accused, a security guard named David James, reportedly committed the act on April 27, 2023, posing as if to clean up the child. James has been arrested and detained in connection with the incident.
A court hearing took place at Magistrate’s Court 1, Ogba, where the 23-year-old James was charged with a single count of sexual assault. The parents of the victim, referred to as Mr and Mrs Olusola, had already appealed to the state government to shut down the school after the incident came to light on May 25, 2023.
In response to the incident, concerned individuals, including friends, family members, and representatives from non-governmental organizations, gathered outside the school with placards, demanding justice for the child and the closure of the institution.
Photographs circulated online on the same day, showing officials from the state Ministry of Education sealing the premises of the school.
The father of the victim, Mr Olusola, expressed approval of the government’s actions, highlighting that this indicates the commitment of the Lagos State Government to ensuring justice prevails. He mentioned that the court proceedings are set to continue from September 4, 2023.
