Tragedy struck on the Sapele-Benin express road as a petrol tanker accident at the Ologbo section claimed the lives of five individuals. According to Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, this horrific incident also resulted in the destruction of two tankers, five trailers, eight buses, two cars, and a motorcycle.
A local resident named Moses disclosed that the accident occurred when some individuals attempted to collect spilled petrol from the fallen tanker, leading to a sudden and deadly fire outbreak. He attributed the tanker’s accident to the poor condition of the road.
The Ologbo stretch of the Sapele-Benin road has been a source of frustration for travelers due to its deteriorating condition, especially during the rainy season. Travelers often find themselves stranded for hours or even an entire day, prompting numerous appeals to the Federal Government to urgently address and repair this troublesome section of the road to prevent such annual hardships.
