Nigeria Medical Association in Nasarawa State initiates a five-day warning strike due to unmet demands from the state government. The strike, which began on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 8 am, will conclude on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 8 am.
Previously, the NMA had given a 21-day ultimatum to the state government to address their concerns regarding the non-implementation of promotions, salary increments, minimum wage, hazard allowance, and accrued arrears, as well as inadequate manpower and excessive taxation on doctors.
The association also raised concerns about poor welfare packages and the lack of seriousness on the government’s part in resolving these issues.
The decision to embark on the warning strike was made during a meeting held by the NMA in the state capital. Dr. Peter Attah, the Chairman of NMA in Nasarawa State, highlighted the association’s frustration with the government’s response and emphasized that doctors and medical workers in the state were facing hardships due to the lack of attention to their concerns.
During the strike, a monitoring team will assess compliance at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia and other 19 general hospitals across the 13 local government areas of the state.
Any NMA member found to be in violation of the strike action will face disciplinary measures from the association’s disciplinary committee. Further actions will be considered if the government fails to address their demands by the specified date of Monday, July 10, 2023.
