Igbos resident in the northern part of Nigeria have been urged by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and Abuja, to disregard what they discribed as a ‘hasty and ill-informed’ three-month ultimatum handed down by a coalition of northern groups to Igbos resident in the north.
The meeting, according to the Northern CAN Chairman, Reverend Yakubu Pam, condemned the latest display of lack of patriotism by some groups or individuals under the guise of ‘agitation’ and urged the Igbos to stay as bonafide citizens of Nigeria.
Specifically, Pam said the parent CAN was miffed by the quit notice by the Arewa groups to the Igbo and “we have disassociated the Northern CAN from the said order.” Besides, he also called on the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency revisit the last National Conference report and get the National Assembly to begin legislative processes of contentious matters.
