Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, national chairman of the ruling All Progressive party, has advocated that the federal government should declare a state of emergency in the energy sector of the country.
Odigie-Oyegun’s suggestion is informed by the poor state of power supply and its retrogressive effects on the growth and development of the country. The APC national chairman made the suggestion during the opening ceremony for the Second Annual Retreat titled: ‘Consolidation of Achievements and New Strategies for Efficient Service Delivery in Sokoto State’ organised for the Sokoto State Executive Council for Permanent Secretaries and Director-General at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.
Odigie-Oyegun considered his call for the declaration of state of emergency on the power sector necessary, because: “If Tambuwal successfully declared a state of emergency on the education sector in Sokoto when he assumed office and is now yielding results, we may also have to do same on power sector in Nigeria where the challenges are unprecedented.”
Odigie-Oyegun further noted that Sokoto is one place where teachers have real status and that the attention given to the girl-child education by the government remains unprecedented.
He charged the participants to be bold, courageous and innovative at discussing the challenges of the state “if you must plan and think big; you must think of the kind of Sokoto you intend to hand over to the younger generation.”
While commending the APC for its performance in the past two years, Odigie-Oyegun urged Nigerians to discountenance the bickering between the Senate and the Controller General of the Nigerian Customs over uniform or no-uniform, promising that brighter days are ahead as President Mohammadu Buhari is steadily and progressively moving the nation forward.
