A woman named Mary Imewe is at present in police custody following the gruesome murder of her mother, Eka Ime.
Mary was said to have killed her mother at their residence on Umoh Obot Street, off Nto Akpan Inyang in the Ikot-Ikpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The suspect also dismembered the body of her mother into different parts before she was apprehended.
A report of the incident on Twitter showed videos of her carrying the butchered pieces of her mother, known as Eka Ime, in a basin.
The witness said, “This girl that butchered her mother in Ikot Ekpene still has the mouth to tell the police to take her anywhere they want.
“She said it herself that she doesn’t care. Elders and youths of the community made sure she carried her dead mother’s body on her head which she butchered into pieces. She has been arrested by the police.”
Angry youths of the community, who were irked by the bizarre manner in which Ime allegedly murdered her mother, compelled her to pack the body parts into a basin and walked round the community”.
Police arrested the suspect and she said she does not care, before being bundled into a waiting police van.
Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon confirmed the incident.
He (PPRO) said no right-thinking person would slaughter their mother in such a gruesome manner.
“The story is true; she butchered her mum. We are suspecting that she is not of a sound mind, but we do not have any medical capacity yet to say so.
“Medical personnel will have to determine if she is of a sound mind or not, because no right-thinking person will kill her mother by butchering her.
“As we speak, we have her in our custody. We have gathered the parts of her mother and deposited them in the mortuary. By the time we ascertain her state of mind, we will charge her accordingly. The test will determine the extent of her culpability in the crime.”
