For the people of Rivers State, Friday, December 22, 2017, was a night to remember as Rivers State Government hosted the Third Rivers State Christmas Carol tagged Hosanna 2017 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt. It was a solemn celebration that emphasised that Rivers State is a State where the people always seek the face of God under the leadership of Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
The 2017 Christmas Carol focused on home-grown and indigenous artistes, who displayed their talents to the admiration of the over 14000 people who gathered to worship God. Sensational Dele from Okrika led the praise and worship, while the RCCG Mass Choir led by Pastor Mrs Nkechi Williams performed a medley of Christmas and indigenous songs.
Two solo artistes, Wisdom K and Kaydee Numbere enlivened the Christian faithful with the special rendition of their songs and popular gospel tracks.
The Anglican Communion Mass Choir led by Hon Enitoun Iyalla brought out the spirit of Christmas as they sang popular Christmas Carol. Their rendition was garnished in the traditional fashion known to all.
It was heaven on earth as children of the Virtue Worship Dancers displayed angelic steps that depicted the spirit of Christmas. Their performance added colour to the Christmas Carol. The Christian Unity Mass Choir lifted the event to another level as they placed the Christian faithful in the right frame of mind ahead of the Christmas celebration.
In a welcome address, Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor, Bishop Winston Iwo said that the Annual Christmas Carol initiated in 2015 by Governor Wike has helped in enhancing the spiritual growth of Rivers people. He stated that the programme has helped to promote Christian Unity, which is one of the most prominent goals of Governor Wike .
He said that the governor’s investments in Christianity are legendary as he has lived up to his promises to the Christian leadership in the state. He outlined the construction of the Rivers State Ecumenical Centre, Chapel of Everlasting Grace and the ongoing completion of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria Secretariat in Port Harcourt as some of the key projects of Governor Wike for the Christian family.
