A yet-to-be-identified man was electrocuted near the Faculty of Education building, close to the Department of Economics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State. The man, suspected of being a cable thief, had finished cutting a cable from a high-tension pole when he was electrocuted due to a sudden power restoration by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
His lifeless body was discovered dangling from the pole on Wednesday morning, and officials from the electricity distribution company, the police, and the university’s safety department were involved in retrieving the body.
An anonymous university official stated, “We came this morning and found the body suspended from the electric pole at a transformer point in the area of the new Faculty of Education building, close to the Department of Economics.” This incident occurred shortly after a similar one where an unidentified man died while attempting to vandalize an electricity cable from a transformer in Amawbia, near Awka.
The state Police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, could not confirm the incident at the time of reporting. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, expressed concern about the continuous attacks on electricity installations in the South-East.
