Kingsley Oshiegbu, a middle-aged businessman, was on Wednesday arraigned in Lagos for beating a woman to death during an argument. Oshiegbu was charged with manslaughter before an Ikeja High Court. The State Prosecutor, Mr M.T Adewoye, told the court that the accused on April 1, 2015 punched Miss Ifeoma Ndidi, to death at No. 7, Majaro St., Agege, Lagos. “The defendant had a verbal misunderstanding with the deceased which led to a heated exchange of words as well as insults. “Angered by Ndidi’s insults, Oshiegbu punched her on the head which led to her collapse and eventual death,” the prosecutor said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence was contrary to Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011. Oshiegbu’s defence counsel, Mr Shaw Jason, in a bail application, appealed to the court to grant bail to the accused on liberal terms. “I wish to also notify the court that the defendant has been in prison custody for the past two years,” Jason said.
Justice Hakeem Oshodi adjourned the matter until June 26 for ruling on the bail application and trial.
