Suspected kidnappers have fatally shot a businessman, Chinonso Ugwu, in the Balele village of the Ningi Local Government Area in Bauchi State. According to an anonymous resident who spoke to journalists, the gunmen arrived in the village around 1:30 am on Tuesday, opening fire indiscriminately.
The resident claimed that these gunmen, who have been terrorizing various communities in the area, targeted the home of the 37-year-old businessman. Ugwu was shot multiple times in the stomach and head.
Due to fear of further attacks, nobody could come to his aid until the following morning when he was rushed to Burra General Hospital accompanied by policemen. Tragically, upon arrival, a medical doctor confirmed his death.
Deputy Caretaker Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area, Lawan Muhammad, has acknowledged the incident’s occurrence and mobilized a team of security personnel, including soldiers and policemen, to provide assistance, rescue, and safeguard the residents.
Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil, the command’s spokesperson, was unable to confirm the incident when approached by journalists at the time of inquiry.
