It was sorrow, tears and uncontrollably wailing for young Miss Onyinyechi Amadi Ugbor as she lost her groom in an unusual manner, on a day that should have been her happiest day.
According to reports, it all happened in Amasiri, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Saturday as the bridegroom, Chukwuemeka Onwuka, slumped at the reception venue and later died in hospital.
Onwuka, an ophthalmologist who hailed from Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, was at the venue of the wedding reception, bubbling with life, but little did anyone imagine that death was lurking around the corner.
The bridegroom had first danced with well-wishers and family members at the reception venue amidst cheers.
After the first dance, there was an interlude by the master of ceremonies, who gave an announcement before the second round of dance.
As the second round of dancing was announced, the bridegroom approached the dance floor, but fell down and started foaming in the mouth.
A source said “He was carried outside and was being fanned by people, but there was no sign of recovery. It was at that point that it was suggested that he should be taken to hospital.”
It was learnt that Onwuka was later taken to a nearby hospital, where the doctor on duty referred him to the Mater Hospital, Afikpo.
He later gave up the ghost, putting the wedding ceremony to an abrupt end, while the joyful crowd instantly became mourners.
Although, some family members and friends are ascribing spiritual dimension to the matter, alleging that he was attacked and killed spiritually, but what came as shock to many is that, few days to the ceremony, he was hale and hearty. Though, no official report was released as at time of this report.
His remains was said to have been deposited at the morgue.
