In a swift reaction to the purported removal of the University of Lagos Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, he has put up a counter move stating that it is “untrue and a figment of imagination,” and making it known that he is still in charge at the institution. He rejected the news of his removal on Wednesday afternoon.
Recall that the Governing Council of the university, led by its chairman, had announced Professor Ogundipe’s removal at a council meeting in Abuja.
The Vice Chancellor is not the only one dismissing the move to remove him from office.
Also, in support of Professor Ogundipe, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Lagos branch, has condemned the “purported removal” of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Toyin Ogundipe.
The Chairman of the union, Dr Dele Ashiru, said the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Wale Babalakin, was behind the plot.
Ashiru said, “His removal is illegal and uncalled for. Our union condemns in the strongest term the purported removal. It is the machination of the pro-chancellor to destabilise this university.
“We reaffirm our confidence in the leadership of Professor Toyin Ogindipe as Vice-Chancellor of the university.”
The UNILAG management and the governing council have been embroiled in a tussle which led to the postponement of the varsity’s convocation.
