The Delta State Police Command paraded over 30 suspects on Tuesday, including a young woman, Ms. Blessing Ibuku, who was arrested for allegedly killing her 10-month-old baby, Prevail Jonathan. The crimes for which the suspects were paraded include robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and murder. The police also recovered 150 arms, including 32 AK-47 rifles.
While addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Asaba, the state Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, disclosed that Ibuku confessed to throwing her baby into a community river due to mockery from friends who taunted her about the child being fatherless.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on November 31, 2024, with the baby’s body recovered from the Aviara community river on December 4, 2024.
“This tragic case is one of several crimes we have worked to address in the past month. Since my assumption of duty as the 22nd Commissioner of Police in February 2024, we have faced numerous challenges, but with the support of other security agencies, stakeholders, and the people of Delta State, we have achieved significant progress in restoring peace,” Olufemi stated.
The command emphasized that investigations into the case are ongoing, and Ibuku remains in custody.
