The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of nine different medications in the hotel room of a 51-year-old US-based Nigerian, Sunday Abidoye, who was found dead at Creestar Hotel, GRA, Sagamu, on Wednesday.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Oluwole, reported the incident to the police five days after Abidoye’s arrival from the United States.
According to Odutola, detectives visited the scene and found the deceased’s body already placed in a car outside the hotel, ready to be transported to the morgue by his family.
The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who resides in Imota, Lagos State, informed the police that his brother had arrived in Nigeria on Saturday, November 16, 2024. On Monday, he visited the hotel, knocked on the door of Room 109 where his brother was staying, and received no response. He then requested a spare key from the manager and discovered his brother’s lifeless body inside.
Odutola stated, “Photos were taken, and various drugs and traditional medicines were recovered from the room. The centre of the bed was soaked with a liquid-like substance.”
She added that a friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, confirmed accompanying Abidoye to purchase nine different medications the previous day due to his complaints of illness.
The body has been moved to the OOUTH morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy. While the exact cause of death remains unknown, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
