A graduate of Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, named Precious Ogbeide, recently attempted suicide due to the university’s alleged refusal to provide him and several other students with their results after they graduated in 2018.
Ogbeide, who had been struggling with depression over the five years of waiting for his results, resorted to self-harm by stabbing himself with a broken bottle.
Many affected students have expressed their frustration about not receiving their degree results, which has left them feeling demoralized and uncertain about their futures.
The university had promised to resolve the backlog of results and help students with their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization, but these promises have not been fulfilled.
A source familiar with the incident revealed that Ogbeide’s frustration with the situation drove him to attempt suicide. He felt helpless and unable to face his family after investing five years in school without any results or job prospects.
The university’s Head of Corporate Communications and Protocol, Mike Aladenika, suggested that students facing result issues might have had course-related deficiencies during their academic journey.
