Early this morning, a group of bandits, who were heavily armed and in large numbers, attacked the off-campus residences of Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State. According to Abubakar Sani, a resident of Sabon Gida village, the bandits primarily targeted female students. The attack occurred at around 4:00am, during which they raided three student hostels.
Sani reported that many students, particularly females, were kidnapped, while some managed to escape into the nearby bush. It’s important to note that the bandits specifically targeted university students and did not abduct any local villagers.
The attackers initially entered the village and immediately focused on the students’ off-campus housing, firing their weapons indiscriminately. Subsequently, they forcefully entered the university campuses and took a significant number of students, with a particular emphasis on females.
Both the university authorities and the state police have refrained from providing any comments or statements regarding this incident.
