Anambra State Police, in collaboration with community vigilantes, have successfully dismantled a notorious armed robbery gang that had been causing fear and distress in areas like Okpoko, Obosi, Atani, Oba, and neighboring locations for several months.
The breakthrough occurred when the police arrested the gang’s leader, Jekwu, on July 11. His interrogation provided vital information that led to the arrest of another gang member attempting to move the arms from Jekwu’s hideout. As a result, one pump-action semi-automatic gun and two locally-made pistols were recovered.
Furthermore, the investigation resulted in the retrieval of five stolen tricycles. The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, commended the vigilante groups for their partnership in ensuring public security and urged the rightful owners of the recovered tricycles to come forward with proof of ownership to claim them.
To enhance security, the police have initiated a robust patrol of the state, conducted by the Police Mobile Force and Police Counter-Terrorist Unit, covering various towns and concluding in the state capital, Awka.
