Massive flooding in eastern Canada resulted in the tragic deaths of two children, bringing the death toll to three, as reported by authorities on Tuesday.
The devastating floods occurred in Nova Scotia, where heavy rainfall equivalent to three months’ worth poured down within hours over the weekend. The downpour led to severe flooding, causing vehicles, bridges, and roads to be washed out.
In an attempt to escape the rising waters, the two children were in a vehicle with other occupants when they were tragically swept away. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated that they were trying to reach a safe area but were struck by the storm surge, causing their vehicle to be pushed off the road into a flooded field.
Rescuers discovered the body of one of the children on Tuesday, while the other was found on Monday. Additionally, in a separate incident, a man and a teenager also went missing under similar circumstances. The body of the 52-year-old man was found on Monday, but the teenager remains missing.
Despite the devastation caused by the flooding, the regional municipality of Halifax, the capital of the province, reported that the water was starting to recede on Tuesday, although some areas were still affected by floods.
